Small businesses are generally independently-owned and can exist in a variety of forms including, but not limited to, corner stores, online boutiques, among many others. They can give a neighborhood strength and create vibrant, diverse communities. If your annual turnover is less than R 10 million you are defined as an Exempt Micro Enterprise (EME). White owned EME companies are a level 4, which amounts to a 100% BEE Procurement Recognition. SME stands for Small Medium Enterprise and SMME stands for Small Medium Micro Enterprise. SMME are companies that are below R5 million turn over per annum, this is the standard for generic broad-based BEE scorecard purpose. On Small Business Saturday – there will never be charge to list your business. We believe in free listings and total ease of access to your business account. Small Business Saturday originally started out in the United States to promoted local brick and mortar shops and business and encourage consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities. It would normally fall on the first Saturday after Black Friday, which is in November alongside the American Thanksgiving holiday. The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. In 2017 Small Business Saturday is on Saturday, December 2nd. In the UK, Small Business Saturday customers also go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts. In South Africa, we have decided that small business should not have to wait a full year to showcase the great products they have to offer the consumer. We believe that small businesses should be promoted each month to raise awareness and build support. For that reason, we declare every first Saturday of the month to be Small Business Saturday. Buy Small® is a nationwide movement that celebrates small businesses every day and helps communities thrive and stay vibrant. Small Business Saturday® – a special day when we can show support as a nation for small business owners and communities – helps fuel the Buy Small® movement.
